Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ), which steadfastly continues its work in the field of sustainability, has strengthened its position among the top 50 universities globally by rising to 45th place worldwide in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings (UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings), climbing to 45th place globally and solidifying its position among the top 50 universities worldwide. YTÜ was also recognized by the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings Network as “The Most Active University in Turkey.”

YTÜ’s achievement was announced during the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings Results and Awards Ceremony, held September 23–25, 2026, in Baku, Azerbaijan, hosted by the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry Company. The event, where the UI GreenMetric 2026 results were announced and successful universities were recognized, brought together higher education institutions from various countries to discuss sustainable campus practices, knowledge sharing, and international collaboration.

Evaluating more than 2000 universities worldwide, the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings assess universities’ sustainability performance through comprehensive indicators ranging from campus infrastructure to energy and climate change, from waste and water management to transportation, and from education to research.

Further Strengthened Its Position in the Top 50

Continuing its steady rise in the UI GreenMetric rankings, YTÜ secured the 48th spot globally in 2025, placing it among the world’s top 50 most sustainable universities. In the 2026 results, YTÜ climbed three more spots to reach 45th place.

This achievement demonstrates the international recognition of YTÜ’s approach, which treats sustainability not merely as an environmental initiative but as an integral component of research, education, campus infrastructure, and institutional governance. 

The university’s commitment to strengthening its sustainability-focused research ecosystem is reflected in research and projects conducted across various disciplines, the integration of sustainability themes into educational and research activities, and support for scientific output in this field. In addition, infrastructure investments aimed at increasing energy efficiency on campuses, the monitoring and effective management of energy consumption, climate action initiatives, sustainable transportation practices, effective waste management, efficient use of water resources, and efforts to develop green campus infrastructure form the core components of YTÜ’s sustainable campus approach. This holistic approach—spanning from education and research to physical infrastructure, and from resource management to campus life—demonstrates that YTÜ positions sustainability as one of the university’s core areas of development.

Turkey’s Most Active University

YTÜ’s success in 2026 was not limited to its ranking performance. The university was recognized with a special commendation as Turkey’s Most Active University within the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings Network.

This recognition reflects YTÜ’s active participation within the UI GreenMetric community and its contributions to strengthening sustainability-focused collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and best practices among universities. Yıldız Technical University, which is playing an increasingly active role in international sustainability networks, continues to contribute to the development of a sustainable higher education ecosystem through campus initiatives as well as projects that bring together different universities and stakeholders, knowledge sharing, and collaborative learning platforms.
