Prof. Dr. Özer ÇINAR
Senior Advisor to the Rector
Prof. Dr. Özer Çınar was born in İzmir in 1970. He graduated from Dokuz Eylül University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Environmental Engineering, in 1991. With a scholarship from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), he went to the United States in 1994 and completed his master's degree in Environmental Systems Engineering at Clemson University’s Faculty of Engineering in 1996, followed by his PhD in 2002.
In 2003, Prof. Dr. Çınar began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University’s Faculty of Engineering. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and became a full Professor in 2011.
Serving as the founding chair of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Sütçü İmam University for eight years, Prof. Dr. Özer Çınar also held the position of Advisor to the Rector between 2005 and 2012. Additionally, from 2007 to 2010, he served as the founding Director of the University-Industry-Public Cooperation Center (ÜSKİM).
Between April 2012 and January 2014, Prof. Dr. Çınar worked as the Rector and a faculty member at the International University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In July 2014, he joined the Department of Environmental Engineering at Yıldız Technical University’s Faculty of Civil Engineering. As of September 2024, Prof. Dr. Özer Çınar continues to serve as the Senior Advisor to the Rector and a Board Member of Yıldız Technical University’s Technopark.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit GÜNEŞ
Advisor to the Rector
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit Güneş was born in 1987 in Çarşamba, Samsun. He completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Yıldız Technical University and graduated in 2011.
In the same year, he commenced his master’s studies at the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences at Yıldız Technical University. Between 2011 and 2012, he worked as an R&D engineer at Metro İstanbul (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality). Beginning in 2012, he started his academic career as a research assistant in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Yıldız Technical University. He completed his master’s degree in 2013 with a thesis entitled “Technical and Economic Investigation of Waste Heat Recovery Methods on Ships.”
Between 2017 and 2018, he conducted research as a TÜBİTAK fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University, USA. In 2019, he received his Ph.D. degree with a dissertation titled “Performance and Size Relationship of Moving Systems: Constructal Development Theory.”
During 2021–2022, he served as a visiting faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University, USA, supported by a TÜBİTAK fellowship. He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in November 2023. Since 2025, he has been serving as an editor of the journal “International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit Güneş has been serving as the Director of the Yıldız Technical University Statistical Application and Research Center since July 2025 and was appointed as Advisor to the Rector in February 2026.
He has an advanced command of English. He is married and has two children.
