The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Yıldız Technical University was established by a Presidential Decree published in today’s issue of the Official Gazette. With this new faculty, YTÜ will bring together its educational and research capabilities in the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, data engineering, and cybersecurity under one roof. 

Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) is bringing together its academic expertise in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced information technologies under the umbrella of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences. The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences was established within YTÜ by Presidential Decree No. 11681, published in the Official Gazette No. 33356 dated August 31, 2026. The regulation entered into force under the provisions of Article 30 of the Additional Provisions of Law No. 2809 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions. 

Three well-established fields will come together under a single academic structure

As part of the new restructuring, the “Computer Engineering” and “Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering” departments, which currently operate within the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, along with the “Mathematical Engineering” department operating within the Faculty of Chemistry-Metallurgy” will come together under the newly established Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences. A “Cybersecurity Engineering” department will also be established within the faculty. 

This restructuring aims to strengthen academic interaction between computer science, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, data engineering, and cybersecurity engineering, and to create an integrated platform for joint research projects, interdisciplinary education programs, and industry collaborations.

A Department of Cybersecurity Engineering Will Be Established

The academic structure of YTÜ’s Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences will be expanded with the planned establishment of the Department of Cybersecurity Engineering. The new department is expected to conduct education and research activities in areas such as network and system security, secure software development, cryptography, digital forensics, and AI-supported cyber defense.

The academic expertise in this field, built through YTÜ’s existing thesis-based master’s program in “Cybersecurity and Cryptography,” will contribute to the research infrastructure of the upcoming undergraduate department.

Program Options in Turkish and English

In the Department of Computer Engineering, which will be part of the new faculty, 30 percent of instruction is conducted in English. While instruction in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering is conducted entirely in English, the Department of Mathematical Engineering offers program options with 30 percent and 100 percent instruction in English. 

With its diverse educational options and interdisciplinary structure, the faculty aims to become a strong academic hub for international students and researchers. Additionally, the goal is to establish an integrated academic ecosystem for fields such as education, research, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer, where artificial intelligence is extensively utilized.
