The panel titled “Being a University in Gaza,” organized as part of the Science Café events of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), will be hosted by Yıldız Technical University. The event, which will address the educational and academic life experiences of faculty and students in Gaza, will examine developments in higher education from various perspectives.
Scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Otağ-ı Hümayun in YTÜ’s Davutpaşa Campus, the event will explore the experiences of being an academic and a student in Gaza, the continuation of educational activities, and the educational struggle of Palestinian prisoners.
Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, YTÜ Vice Rector for Education and Teaching, will deliver the opening remarks.
As part of the program, Prof. Dr. Asaad Yousef Asaad, Rector of the Islamic University of Gaza, will deliver a speech titled “Being an Academic in Gaza,” in which he will discuss the current state of academic life in Gaza and the experiences of academics there.
Anas El Saleh, a YTÜ industrial engineering student and the Turkey representative of the General Union of Palestinian Students, will share students’ experiences regarding their educational processes in a talk titled “Existing Through Education.”
Palestinian academic Dr. Abdünnasır İsa will address the continuation of educational activities and the educational struggle of Palestinian prisoners in his talk titled “Holding On to Education Despite the Darkness: The Educational Struggle of Palestinian Prisoners.”
