Geotechnical Research Fields

In civil engineering applications such as residential building construction, transportation systems, bridges, dams and irrigation structures, energy production facilities, ports and sea structures, tunnels and underground structures, waste disposal and treatment structures the determination of the geological and ground structure of the construction site during the etude-design-construction phases have great importance for economic and safe construction. The devastating earthquakes in our country in recent years have shown the painful consequences of inadequacy in evaluation of the ground conditions in construction projects.

Geotechnical Engineering Division takes actively place in research and application activities as well as undergraduate and postgraduate education which has an important place in civil engineering education.

Geotechnical Division of the Department of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which has made its mission to take part in the geotechnical applications in our country effectively by contributing to the development of universal science through research projects and equipping our students with the latest information about their professions contributes to the development of the Yıldız Technical University.

Laboratory Facilities

The Geotechnical Division offers a theoretical and experimental research opportunities in various fields of Geotechnical Science. Main research topics that have been investigated are the anchor sheet pile applications in deep excavations, the stability of dams, the seismic behavior of retaining structures, seismic risk analysis, the use of interface elements in foundation engineering applications, model pile tests and model experiments on the bearing capacity of reinforced and unreinforced sandy soils.

During the experimental and theoretical researches, the most advanced computer programs, analytical and numerical methods are used and there is a wide range of current literature possibilities in the field of education. In addition to the University Computer Center facilities, existing personal computers are used in the Geotechnical Divisionfor postgraduate education.
