Yıldız Impact in Teknofest 2019

 

Teknofest Aerospace and Technology Festival took place at Ataturk Airport between 17-22 September. Our university’s booth which was among academic shareholders of the festival attracted great deal of attention from all ages.

In the festival, technology competitions with the greatest awards in Turkish history, World Drone Cup, Take Off International Enterprise Summit, HackIstanbul 2019, Vertical Wind Tunnel, Planetariums, air shows, breathtaking air shows Solo Turk and Turkish Stars, workshops and surprise activities took place.

In Teknofest, which was held at Ataturk Airport with the support of Turkey’s most important institutions and firms, in the leadership of Turkey Technology Team Foundation (T3) and Republic of Turkey Ministry of Industry and Technology, technology competitions were organized under 19 different categories in order to support young people’s works on future technologies.

In the wide range of competitions, from aviation to automative, from artificial intelligence to simulation systems, from underwater systems to autonomous systems, over 2,000 team and 50,000 competitors deserved to be finalists, and our university made an impact this year as well with the technologies it developed and the success it earned in competitions.

First Prize- Unmanned and Autonomous Land Platforms Design Competition in the Category “Small Size Enterprises”

In the Unmanned and Autonomous Land Platforms Design Competition which held by Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) one of our Teknopark firms Polonom Technology Industry and Trade Inc. received the first prize in the category of “small size enterprises”. Polonom Industry and Trade Inc., which was established by YTU Computer Engineering faculty members Assoc.Prof. Sırma Yavuz and Dr. Erkan Uslu, was presented its award by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

 

   

 

TÜBİTAK Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Flight Control Software- Domestic Software Prize

In TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle competitions, which were organized in Yenikapı area within the scope of Teknofest 2019, our students Berkay Gürkan, Hamza Köse, Said Burak Güzel, who are students at Mechatronics Engineering Department, Simulator and Unmanned Systems Laboratory SimULab, together with their supervisor Prof. Dr. Vasfi Emre Ömürlü were granted Domestic Software Award, and they received their prize from Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, president of TÜBİTAK, in Ataturk Airport Teknofest 2019 area.

 

 

Technology for Humanity-First Prize in the category of “Health”

Teknofest 2019 Technology for Humanity- in the category of health YTU Biomechatronics Team, which consists of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Erhan Akdoğan and Dr. Sıtkı Kocaoğlu, was granted first prize. Our team’s project titled “Smart Tumor Prosthesis” is also Dr. Kocaoğlu’s PhD thesis that was supervised by Dr. Akdoğan (Faculty member of Kırklareli University) and supported by YTU-BAP (Scientific research project).

 

   

First Prize in Performance in the category of Hydromobile, Engineering Design Award with Energy Management and System Design, First Domestic Product Encouragement Award

In Teknofest 2019, our Alternative Energy Systems Club’s vehicle Hydra, which contested in the category of Hydromobile, received First Prize in performance in terms of spending minimum energy in its own category, and also received Energy Management System Design and Engineering Design Awards. Since Hydra’s engine, motor drive, energy management system, battery management system, built-in charge module, and vehicle control unit were all domestic products produced by AESK Team, Hydra received First Domestic Product Encouragement Award.

 

Productivity Record Award in Electromobile category and Second Prize in Performance

Our Alternative Energy Systems Club’s vehicle Lyra, competed in electromobile category, received Productivity Record Award and Second Prize in Performance since it spent minimum energy with 715 Wh in the history of Efficiency Challenge competitions.

 

   

Encouragement Award in the subject of “Health”

Our students Şebnem Sarıözkan, Caner Emec, Hürkan Şahin and their supervisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aydın Yeşildirek received encouragement award in the subject of ‘health’ with their project titled “Artificial Intelligence Algorithms and EMG Controlled Prosthesis Arm Design and Its Implementation” within the scope of Teknofest TÜBİTAK University Students Research Projects Competitions.

 

   

Second Prize in Teknofest IYT Environment Competition

Research assistant Ömer Faruk Güney’s project -which is carried out under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kadir Erkan, one of the faculty members of Mechatronics Engineering deparment- titled “Vertical Magnetic Bedded Wind Energy Turbine” received second prize within the scope of Teknofest İYT Environment competition. The team, which participated in the competition with the name of “YTU Maglev Manyetürk”, consists of PhD student Ahmet Fevzi Bozkurt, master student Enes Mahmut Göker and Gökşen Elpeze, undergraduate students Suat Saltık, Ali Uğur and Bayram Karaca.
